TWO IDEAS

Khaled Al-Jazi

Product Branding

Now that your invention is tested and improved, it’s time to bring it to life with a name, a vibe, and a story. Think of it like branding your own mini startup!

User Testing

This step is crucial for improving your concept, producing testable prototypes, receiving direct feedback, and guiding your project towards a novel application.

Purpose

Feedback is a crucial step in the design process. It exposes you to new ideas, methods, and techniques for developing your ideas further. Continuous feedback throughout the design process also creates a collaborative studio culture, where ideas are shared across projects, which leads to more exciting, developed, and innovative ideas!

Instructions

In this assignment, you will review the thesis statements, mood boards, story boards, and concept art, posted by your peers in Response Tab of this assignment and provide feedback to three teams.

You and your peers will consider this feedback as your teams decide how to proceed with their final project. Be thoughtful in your feedback, and refer to the guide below when giving feedback to your peers:

What to Offer Feedback On:

  1. Does their story make sense? Is it clear what they are trying to communicate through their film? What is the message?  Do they present a complex ethical issue? Are they addressing both sides of the argument?
  2. Does their story seem plausible? Is it grounded in reality/research? What evidence do they use to support their projections?
  3. Do the visuals presented (mood board, concept art, storyboards) align with the message of the film? Are they stylistically appropriate for this story? Why or why not?
  4. Do they show evidence of iteration? Do their shot selections reinforce the emotional tone of the scenes they depict?

How to Give Useful Feedback:

  1. Feedback should never have mean intentions! You can be positive and critical at the same time.

  2. Be as specific as you can.

  3. What kind of feedback would you find helpful if it were your project? Try to give the type of feedback that you would like to receive.

  4. Always elaborate with WHY. Instead of just saying, "your idea is great," explain what part of their project you like, and why you think it is interesting.

  5. Ask questions! If something doesn't make sense to you, ask a question about that part of the project or idea. This is a great method for getting someone to think about new ideas, different perspectives, and new approaches.

Deliverable

Select 3 project teams to provide feedback to. After reviewing their mid-review presentation, click the "comment" button to add your feedback. You may also ask clarifying questions in your comments.

Description

In this activity, we will learn how to program and control various electronic components. We will use Arduino to activate and control mechanisms, incrementally building towards the project's expected behavior.

Instructions

Start by downloading and installing the Arduino software. Then, follow the tutorials and examples provided to familiarize yourself with the basics of programming with Arduino (Resources live in the "Toolbox" tab)

Deliverables

Your final product should be a functioning circuit that integrates many electronic components to meet the project's goals. Document your progress and create a set of slides to present to the studio.
