Emotive Elements: Crafting Abstract Poster

Kardelen Cici

Emotive Elements & Abstract Poster

Purpose

In this activity is to enable students to explore and express their emotions through the creation of unique symbols as elements. By designing six distinct elements that each represent different emotions, students will delve into the relationship between visual design and emotional expression.

Following this, they will integrate these symbols into a cohesive vertical abstract graphic poster, fostering their creativity, enhancing their design skills, and deepening their understanding of abstract art and emotional communication through visual mediums.

Instructions
  1. Review & Analyze the Work of Alex Calder  (Class Discussion) (15 min)
  2. Brainstorm Drawing Rules (10 min)
Working individually, brainstorm and develop a set of rules to create a section of the collaborative art piece. Be sure to write each step of your rule set clearly, so there is little room for interpretation.
  3. Create a grid of drawing canvases using A3 size paper as vertically
  4. Randomly assign a set of gestalt rules to each student.
  5. Each student should make a list of emotions (8) and choice 4 gestalt rules.
  6. Each student now completes their assigned drawing, following the rules as closely as possible.
  7. If time allows, repeat this process with another rule set. Compare the outcomes from each iteration.

Kinetic Art Sculpture

Emotion in motion

Nada Al-Sultan Al-Ghory

This kinetic sculpture, titled "Emotion in Motion," embodies the conflicting emotions of frustration and hope. The delicate balance of geometric shapes, suspended by wire, suggests a sense of tension and longing. The interplay of jagged and curved forms in varying shades of blue symbolizes the emotional struggle between despondency and optimism, creating a visual representation of resilience in the face of adversity. The composition reflects the duality of emotions as they coexist and interact.
