Prompt: In design, a precedent is an existing project, artwork, or creative idea that demonstrates an innovative way of solving a problem or communicating an idea. Designers and artists study precedents to discover new techniques, inspire creative thinking, and understand how others have approached similar challenges.
In this studio, our challenge is to create a sonic story using music, voice, and environmental sounds. Before creating our own compositions, we will investigate how artists, musicians, filmmakers, and sound designers use sound to communicate emotion, place, memory, and narrative.
As you explore these examples, think like a sound designer. Listen carefully to how different sonic elements work together to create meaning.
