Light, in some of its fundamental forms like a camp fire  or a candle flicker, has the deep evocation in the human psyche for  gathering, becoming a community, sharing stories, remembrances and  dreams.

Students  will explore how they can stay connected with friends - old and new -  while taking a break from their smart devices and exploring new ways of  communication through making and experiencing light. Students in this  studio will specifically design lighting fixtures, which will be used to  connect with each other remotely Projects will communicate to each other and embody a  concept in an abstract or tangible form: students can pick concepts that  are local to them and has significance in their lives. Lighting  elements, for instance, that evoke the kind of sunlight or sunset in  one’s city, that are inspired by one’s natural or built environment,  that are tangible manifestation of an aspect of their culture and  traditions, or that emulate traditional crafts and synthesizes them into  contemporary form. Teams are encouraged to pursue interesting  materials, fabrication techniques and connections. The lighting fixtures  can be conceptualized as hanging fixtures, desktop fixtures, standalone  objects or wearables.

سوف تتواصل المشاريع مع بعضها البعض وتجسد المفهوم بشكل مجرّد أو ملموس: يمكن للطلاب اختيار مفاهيم محلية لهم ولها أهمية في حياتهم. على  سبيل المثال ، عناصر الإضاءة التي تستحضر نوعًا من أشعة الشمس أو غروب  الشمس في مدينة واحدة ، مستوحاة من البيئة الطبيعية أو المبنية للإنسان ،  والتي تمثل مظهراً ملموساً لجزء من ثقافتها وتقاليدها ، أو التي تحاكي  الحرف التقليدية وتجميعها في شكل معاصر.

 يتم تشجيع الفرق على متابعة المواد المثيرة للاهتمام وتقنيات التصنيع والاتصالات. يمكن تصور تركيبات الإضاءة على أنها تركيبات معلقة ، أو تركيبات سطح المكتب ، أو كائنات مستقلة أو أجهزة قابلة للارتداء.
