The universe is and always has been a mystery to us. In order to discover what is out there, humans launched scientific missions to seek answers. This mystery is the reason why people have created stories to explain and imagine what they believe the vast space contains beyond Earth. One of the most compelling forms of story-telling have been comics which serve as a guide to exploring far and interesting worlds. The first science fiction comics appeared as the comic strip “Mr. Skygack, from Mars” by A.D. Condo, which first appeared in newspapers in 1907.

Comics, especially sci-fi comics, grew even more popular in the 1930s and 40s as scientists such as Sir Arthur Eddington who published “The Expanding Universe: Astronomy's 'Great Debate'”, in 1933, and Hartland Snyder who predicted the existence of black holes in 1939.

The 20th century was a substantial time for scientific and astronomical research which culminated in a space race between the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States (US). 

With this race towards knowledge came more visual imaginings of the universe beyond our earth and even our solar system. To this day we are constantly learning more about deep space, black holes, habitable planets, gravitational wave sources and so much more. With that and now more than ever, we should visualize it!

In this studio, you will create a 3-dimensional and interactive comic of what life is beyond our universe. You will learn narrative structure, how to build character profiles and drawing styles that will aid in this new form of story-telling.

كان ولا يزال الكون لغزاً غامضاً بالنسبة لنا فأطلقنا مهمات علمية لاكتشاف ألغازه بواسطة رواد الفضاء والروبوتات. بداعي هذا الغموض، ابتكر النّاس قصصاً لشرح وتخيل ما الذي يمكن أن يحتوي الفضاء الواسع بعيداً عن الأرض.

أحد أكثر أشكال سرد القصص إبداعًا هو القصص المصورة حيث أنّها دليل لاستكشاف عوالم بعيدة ومثيرة للاهتمام. ظهرت أوائل كاريكاتيرات الخيال العلمي في الصحف عام 1907 في القصص المصوّرة "السّيد سكايغاك المرّيخي"، لمؤلفهA.D. Condo . 

وشهد القرن العشرون ثورة كبيرة في البحث العلمي والفلكي، لدرجة كان هناك سباق فضاء بين كلاً من الاتحاد السوفيتي والولايات المتحدة الأميركية. ومع هذه الحاجة إلى معرفة المزيد حول "ما هو موجود" ، جاءت تصورات بصرية وفنية أكثر للكون تتجاوز أرضنا وحتى نظامنا الشمسي.

حتى يومنا هذا نتعلم باستمرار المزيد عن الفضاء السحيق، الثقوب السوداء ، الكواكب الصالحة للحياة، ومصادر موجة الجاذبية، وأكثر من ذلك بكثير. ومع ذلك وأكثر من أي وقت مضى، يجب علينا تصور ذلك!

في هذا الاستوديو، سيقوم الطلاب بإنشاء قصص مصوّرة ثلاثية الأبعاد وتفاعلية لكيف ممكن أن تكون هي الحياة خارج عالمنا. سوف تتعلم بنية القصص المصوّرة، وكيفية إنشاء ملفات تعريف الشخصيات ورسم أنماط من شأنها أن تساعد في هذا الشكل الجديد من سرد القصص.
