Astronauts need spacesuits for many reasons: they are a barrier and a means of protection for its wearer from extreme temperatures and elements like harmful space dust which can cause serious harm. The suits themselves hold drinkable water as well as special gold-lined visors that protect the astronaut’s eyes from the sun.

The suit in conventional NASA missions is used for spacewalks. This is when an astronaut leaves the space shuttle to perform specific tasks. Without spacewalks, much of the work that needs to be done in space would not be accomplished and these walks can sometimes take up to 8 hours which confirms the need for this suit and its built-in features. The history of spacesuits is extensive and has evolved with each mission, as we learn how to best equip astronauts for their work in outer space.As we venture farther and farther into the vastness of space, the need to improve special equipment increases, prompting us to work on further evolving these “Wearable Spacecrafts”. 

In this studio,students will take a deeper look into the challenges space poses on the human body, and the ways in which a wearable spacecraft can increase the comfort and performance of astronauts during spacewalks.

يحتاج رواد الفضاء إلىبذل فضاءلأسباب عديدة إذ انّها درع  ووسيلة لحماية مرتديه من درجات الحرارة القصوى وعناصر مثل غبار الفضاء المؤذي والذي قد يلحق ضررًا خطيرًا بالرّائد. تحمل البذل نفسها الماء صالحة للشّرب وكذلك أقنعة خاصة مبطنة بالذهب تحمي عيون رائد الفضاء من الشمس.

تُستخدم بذلة الفضاء في مهام ناسا التقليدية للسير في الفضاء، أي عندما يغادر رائد فضاء المركبة الفضائيّة لأداء مهام محددة فمن دون السير في الفضاء، لما كان لرائد الفضاء أن يحقّق مهامه. يمكن للسّير في الفضاء أن يستغرق بحدود ال٨ ساعات أحياناً مما يؤكد الحاجة إلى هذه الأجهزة وجميع ميزاتها. يمتدّ تاريخ البذل الفضائيّة على نطاق واسع فتطوّر تصنيعها على مرّ الزّمان من ازدياد معرفتنا عن كيفيّة تزويد رواد الفضاء بأفضل المعدّات لأداء عملهم في الفضاء

حيث أنّ الحاجة لتطوير هذه "المركبات الفضائية القابلة للارتداء" تزداد كلّما نذهب أبعد وأبعد في الفضاء الشّاسع.

في هذا الاستوديو، سنظر الطلاب في التحديات التي يطرحها الفضاء على جسم الإنسان والطرق للمركبة الفضائية القابلة للارتداء أن تزيد من راحة وأداء رواد الفضاء أثناء السير في الفضاء.
