Whether we are looking in, out, or through, portals are an unavoidable part of our field of vision. The computer screen is a portal into the internet (or a loved one in another space?), the window is a portal into (or out of) space, even a rearview mirror acts as a temporary portal towards what is behind us. Paintings are portals into the past, and movie screens are portal into imaginary worlds. While spatial, with the technology available today the portal has turned in an often physical object that enables access to a virtual world.

This studio takes aim at the role of virtual reality and augmented reality in our lives, both present, and future. We will look back at the most analog form of accessing a virtual world and low-tech methods for augmenting reality. From there, students can trace the journey towards the sophisticated AR/VR technology used today, while pondering the design of a portal of interest to them. Will we see portals into our own pasts? Will we look through windows that augment the world beyond them?

سواء كنا ننظر إلى الداخل أو الخارج أو من خلالها ,  المداخل جزء لا يمكن تجنبه من مجال رؤيتنا , شاشة الكمبيوتر عبارة عن مدخل إلى الإنترنت (أو نافذة للقاء شخص نحبه في مكان آخر؟)، والنافذة عبارة عن مدخل إلى داخل (أو خارج) مساحة ما ، وحتى مرآة الرؤية الخلفية تعمل كمدخل مؤقت نحو ما هو موجود خلفنا.

اللوحات هي مداخل للماضي، وشاشات الأفلام هي مدخل إلى عوالم خيالية. على الرغم من أن الموقع مكاني بشكل أساسي، ومع توفر التكنولوجيا اليوم، فقد تحول المدخل إلى كائن مادي في أوقات عدة يتيح الوصول إلى عوالم افتراضية. 

يستهدف هذا الاستوديو دور الواقع الافتراضي والواقع المعزز في حياتنا الحالية والمستقبلية. سنلقي نظرة على الشكل الأكثر تناظرا للوصول إلى عالم افتراضي وأساليب ذات تقنية منخفضة لتعزيز الواقع. من هناك، يمكن للطلاب تتبع الرحلة نحو تقنية AR/VR المتطورة المستخدمة اليوم، مع التأمل في تصميم مدخل يهمهم. هل سنرى مداخل تصلنا مع ماضينا ؟ هل سننظر من خلال النوافذ التي تعزز العالم من ورائها؟
