Ancient civilizations innovated in the sciences, design, and manual work to satisfy the needs of the time. In this studio, students will look back at the origins of wearable armor and the techniques and materials employed to create them at the time. From there, students will proceed to analyze and utilize these methods to build modern day wearable devices to protect the human body from mundane challenges, from harsh weather conditions to difficult social encounters, innovating with the use of simple cardboard. At the end of the studio the projects will be displayed on the runway, highlighting the take-away from ancient attire and the innovation achieved with contemporary cardboard.
