Reyhanli’s main street is activated mainly by locations of consumption: clothing stores, restaurants, and shops. Cambridge, somewhat similarly, has dense nodes lined with smaller stores that have survived. In contrast, the world’s cities today are losing their lively main streets to big box stores lining the suburbs. In this studio students in their respective cities  will investigate street life and the different qualities and aspects that form it, and look for ways to maintain this energy though deployable interactive devices. The studio will turn the sidewalks along Reyhanli’s main street and Cambridge’s Central Square into interactive engagement platforms.
