Little Amal represents the millions of individual children forced to leave their homes in desperate situations. The global pandemic has made them more vulnerable than ever. Additionally, the pandemic has made it difficult for us to join Amal on her journey in a physical way. In this studio, students will explore the realm of automata as a means of automating themselves in the journey with Amal. They will create a moving mechanical device made in imitation of themselves to envision themselves walking alongside Little Amal and creating a community around her. 

Students in this studio will create working Automatas of themselves recorded as a GIF as well as kits of automata in the likeness of Little Amal that can be given to other young people on her walk. Students will also be creating a collective instruction manual that gives others an understanding of how to make their own automata based on their experience. They will be adding tips and tricks - drawing out instructions and sharing their own stories building out a community of young people that can join them and little Amal on her journey who otherwise might not be able to.
